The harmonius characteristic of Korean Thought


Many people misunderstand that Korean thought is a kind of Chinese that. Even some Koreans who respected Chinese culture also insist that they are the same. Japanese imperialists also agree with them because it justitied their colonialization of Koreans. But Korean thought has originality. For example,the Buddhism in Korea is different from that which is practiced in India or China. Introductory Buddhism in India transfered to particular Buddhism in China. Koreans rebuild that harmonius one named 'Hwajeng'. Rev.Wonhyo in the silla dynasty is a represintative person who practiced and established harmonius(Hwajeng) Buddhism. Such as his enlightened movement for the general public affected to not only monks but also laymen. Consequently his effort could enlarged the Buddhists belief or religion. Moreover, through this Harmonius Doctrine could be harmonius between the old shamanism and the new Buddhism in ancient Korea. Even the unification idea of Three kindoms is provided for in this doctrine. Rev. Bojo in Koryo dynasty also handed down this doctrine that established a harmony or a harmonius brige between Zen and non-zen sect. He is a representative person who provided for the chogye order, a mordern Korean Buddhists association. In the case of Korean Confusianism in the Choson dynasty, Master Yulgok synthesized the dispute of li.chi(metapysical discussion). He didn't agree with the monism(only li. or only chi) and the dualism(li and chi) in the metapysical background. It is the typical harmonius thought that non-dualism and non-monism. He said li and chi are not 'two'(dualism) or not 'one'(monism). Late in the Chosun dynasty, Donghak(Eastern studies) synthesize on traditional religions.(Confusianism. Buddhism. Taoism-included Shamanism)
